Living a balanced and healthy life is far more difficult than many health and fitness professionals make it sound. It is not that the principles are profound and difficult to understand, but rather that the imbalance of life in the twenty-first century is so great. The demands and expectations that are put on us and that we put on ourselves are often unrealistic and overwhelming.

The most convenient and easily accessible foods are frequently the unhealthiest and most fattening. Popular culture and the advertisement industry have given us so many incomplete, inaccurate, and mixed messages about health and fitness that most people don’t know where to start.

Where-ever you are on your path to improved health and fitness in your life, you have found a proven source of effective information. There are no lotions, potions, or secrets to improved long-lasting balance. There is no one exercise, philosophy, or training method that will do the job alone.

Experiencing the positive benefits of a balanced life comes from continually surveying the circumstances of your life and the attitude you take in response to those circumstances. Balance is not a static experience that once attained continues indefinitely. Living a balanced life requires embracing the changes, demands, challenges, and  disappointments of life as well as its triumphs with flexibility, endurance, and a willingness to adjust, reset, reinvent, and sometimes start over again.

The articles below were published to help sharpen the physical and mental requirements of swimming, running, kayaking, dory racing, and paddleboard racing.

The mental focus and balanced approach suggested are relevant in all sports and many areas of life. Enjoy!
